When you pay with a credit card the issuer, say Visa charges the motel a percentage of the charged amount as a fee to Visa---anywhere from 3 to 5 percent or so. Thus, the surcharge to you for not paying cash. When in a small town in the middle of the UP you should always pay in cash, thus avoiding any surcharge.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, the Econolodge Paw Paw, MI responded to the Michigan Attorney General that was doing an investigation (Refer to AG No.: 2018-0222173-A) into the "Deceptive Business Practice" that they used by not honoring my pre-paid...

It is always a good idea to try and find out just who owns/manages one of these budget motels and if you see any foreign names, go elsewhere.
